What are we asking our smart speakers?

Trends in tech are really important to us, and even though this isn’t exactly a brand new product it is still one that is getting a lot of attention. 

It was just over a year ago that smart speakers entered the market here in Canada. It probably feels longer, but that’s because voice assistance has been around for a long time. After all we have been talking at Siri since 2011.

Of the two dominating speakers on the market, the Google Home was here first in June of last year. The Amazon Echo followed in December. As of the end of Q1 2018 it was discovered that 8% of Canadians own a smart speaker; 55% of those own a Google speaker and 22% own an Amazon speaker.

A recent study from Adobe Analytics surveyed 1000 U.S consumers to reveal what they are actually asking their smart speakers. Take a look at the results:

Though asking for music, the weather and “fun questions” may not be surprising results, it will be interesting to see how people continue to use their smart speakers. As the industry in Canada continues to grow we look forward to seeing the data on how we use the device.

Many other companies are joining in on the smart speaker train, this is just the beginning for A.I industry, and we’ll be here waiting for the next big innovation.
